NIWA Ecosystems publicationAbstract: This report (Volume 2) presents detailed results of the first comprehensive, standardised survey of the lake vegetation of the Lower Waikato. The systematic survey of vegetation of thirty-eight lakes between late 1989 and early 1993 forms the basis of vegetation descriptions for each lake. An attempt has also been made to recreate past vegetation descriptions of individual lakes by accessing existing published and unpublished information from previous investigations. These past and recent descriptions highlight the extreme change that has occurred in these shallow water ecosystems, and the surveys will act as a baseline to enable future changes to be identified and interpreted.
