Environment Southland monitors groundwater and surface water resources through a number of programmes, many of which have only been developed since 2001 in response to a significant increase in water demand and Environment Southlandαs Proposed Regional Water Plan. This report is intended to summarise the current state of knowledge of groundwater and surface water relationships in the Mataura catchment above Gore based primarily on data collected over the past seven years. This report will also supplement a groundwater modelling study currently being undertaken with Phreatos Limited to address management of stream depletion effects from groundwater abstraction.
