The method used to reduce magnetic measurements made during an aeromagnetic survey of the East Coast of the North Island, New Zealand, is described. The measurements were made at an altitude of 3.05 km and the flight line positions were found using vertical air photographs. The proton precession magnetometer readings were filtered and the effect of diurnal magnetic variations removed using a computer. Total force magnetic anomalies were also obtained, smoothed and plotted using the computer. The final maps were hand contoured
