Kinloch Marina (Lake Taupo) has continuing water quality problems associated with aquatic plant growth. Benthic and epiphytic algae (Nitella, Oscillatoria, Spirogyra, Melosira) are the main nuisance species. Vascular macrophyte growth appears to be suppressed by the algal mats. Nutrient levels in the marina are high. The source of these has been identified as natural groundwater with a possible but small septic tank contamination. Methods of aquatic plant control in the marina are discussed and some recommendations are made for future management
