Comparisons of potting survey designs and estimates of pot catchability and size selectivity NIWA document server Summary: Third fixed, first random site potting surveys in the time series. Eighty-eight sites surveyed, 6 pots per site, 528 pot lifts. Pot catch weighed, length and sex of blue cod recorded. Otoliths age-length keys applied to the scaled length frequency distributions to estimate population age structures. Estimates of Z and F%SPR indicate spawning biomass has been reduced to 52% in Kaikoura and 44-45% in Motanau. Density estimates from video transects had only a poor relationship with pot catches.
