N2  - The fisheries taking flatfish in FLA 2 were analysed from 1989¬-90 to 2015-16 using commercial catch and effort data. The FLA 2 fishery is largely concentrated around the port of Napier. Sand flounder and New Zealand sole are the dominant flatfish species caught.  The accepted CPUE index using daily aggregated data for combined flatfish species shows cyclic fluctuations in abundance, with indices for New Zealand sole and sand flounder showing similar trends to the aggregate series
