Catches have historically been intermittent, but increased rapidly after 2010, and have fluctuated around the TACC since 2014. Catches have predominantly been taken from a distinct area to the north of the Chatham Islands, with fishing in another area to the west for a short period during the mid 2000s. Standardised CPUE indices follow trends observed in raw CPUE data and scampi catches from the Chatham Rise middle depths trawl survey.
