Incomplete contents:
Dairy products are a major NZ export earner. DSIR has developed a model to help a large dairy company quickly adjust its production plan whenever emergencies or new opportunities arise. Computer reports and graphics show managers how to allocate raw materials to various factories, and where to process by-products. The model handles weekly fluctuations in raw materials availability and quality - as well as transport costs, factory capacities and costs, and product yields and prices. Comparison runs show that the model increases daily profitability by over $9000. The company's strategic planners also use the model to analyse future corporate development options. (auth.)
