Papers from an international workshop, the "Forum on Cyanobacterial Dominance", held 15 February - 6 March 1987, Taupo?, New Zealand
This volume is derived from a 3 week international workshop, the 'Forum on Cyanobacterial Dominance' conducted during late summer 1987 (15 February to 6 March) in the central North Island of New Zealand. Through this period a broad range of experimental measurements and observations were made on two eutrophic lakes of similar size and depth, but contrasting phytoplankton species composition: Lake Okaro where #Microcystis aeruginosa# was accompanied by green algae and flagellates, and Lake Rotongaio dominated almost exclusively by a nitrogen-fixing #Anabaena#. This multidisciplinary comparative study offered an opportunity to evaluate many of the variables which influence the growth and persistence of bloom-forming cyanobacteria. Also included in this volume are 3 papers containing data from outside the late summer period as further background to the limnology and phytoplankton dynamics of these two eutrophic waters. (ed.)
