Technical note / Geophysics Division
The method used to reduce magnetic measurements made during the aero-magnetic survey of the west coast of the North Island, New zealand is described. The positions of the flight lines were found using vertical aerial photographs. The proton precession magnetometer readings were filtered and the effect of diurnal magnetic variations removed using a computer. Total force magnetic anomalies were also obtained, smoothed and plotted using the computer. The final maps were hand contoured. Details are also given of unpublished offshore aeromagnetic measurements also used in the compilation of the "Magnetic Map of New Zealand 1:250 000". (auth.)
