Incomplete contents:
Discusses the environmental implications of the development of the Broadlands geothermal field for electricity generation. The recommendation that the power project be called Ohaki will be adopted. Broadlands is a small village on the eastern side of the Waikato River. Geothermal resources should be managed in such a manner that the rate of energy production can be sustained. The best and fullest use of the resource should be made taking into account advancing technology in the field. Further study of emissions to the atmosphere and approval of an environmentally acceptable system to deal with emissions is required. Back-up systems are required to avoid accidental discharges of bore wastes into the river. A meeting of the Ohaki maori community should be called to discuss the impact on them; particularly in terms of proposed land acquisition. Worker accommodation should be built to a permanent standard and be dispersed among the local communities. Local people should be given priority in employment at the station. New areas of study will be created. Research into levels of wastes and their possible uses. Monitoring social impacts and the most suitable method of land acquisiton will need work. (PGE)
