The geomagnetic field can be modelled on both a regional and a global scale by a variety of analytic expressions. MAGMAP is a computer program which uses the analytic properties of a field model to produce a map showing isomagnetic contours of the field components and their secular variation. One of two mathematical models of the field can be chosen at run-time and the contours are plotted for a specified region of the world on one of two map projections, to any scale. Different models of the same mathematical form can be used by preparing the appropriate files of coeffients. Coastlines can be drawn on the map if required. MAGMAP has been structured so that further field models and map projections can be added to it with the minimum of alteration to the existing program. The program also has the capability to display values of all of the field components at a user-specified location and epoch using either of the available field models. (auth)
