Scott Base should remain in its present locality, since McMurdo station is no longer to be moved to Marble Point. A Ministry of Works team is conducting a preliminary study of the existing Scott Base facilities and factors relating to the possible staged rebuilding of the base. An Italian party departed for the Dry Valleys on an expedition which had not gained full RDRC approval - RDRC must take steps to prevent a repetition of this situation. Part of the Victria University of Wellington Expedition 18 at Shapeless Mountain encountered difficulties, two members of the party suffering carbon monoxide poisoning; it is recommended that detectors be carried. It is desirable that RDRC be advised of all expeditions to the Ross Dependency, e.g. the German party at C. Adare this summer (CMB)
