Unpublished Botany Division vegetation report; 16 maps; 77 illus; (map S165)
This report records the results of botanical surveys of beach areas in and near Fiordland NP. These surveys were initiated at beaches for which mineral prospecting warrants had been applied for. More extensive survey followed when it became apparent that sand dunes in this area, although small, still hold good examples of native dune vegetation, this having largely disappeared in many other parts of the South Island because of weed infestation and agricultural modification. The report describes and illustrates the vegetation of each beach, lists native and adventive plants, discusses troublesome weeds, browsing animals and other threats to native vegetation. (auth)
