Scope and content: In 1993 the Fishing Industry Marketing Council launched its strategy document $2 billion by 2000 in which the path towards a $2 billion export industry was detailed. The goal is ambitious but achievable and one year into the seven year plan it is timely to take stock of progress to date and to detail the next stage of the strategy. This document will outline the current situation in the world seafood market, examine New Zealand’s performance in that market during 1993 and comment on the progress on the path towards 2000. The second stage of the document details the achievements against objectives of the 1993/94 programme and the final section outlines the programme for 1994/95.
