The occurence of a colloidal precipitate in thawed water samples from the Rotorua region which had been frozen (for preservation for chemical analyses) was shown to be an amorphous silica using XRF, XRD and microscopical analyses. The turbidity effect on DRP colourimetric analysis was not significant if the sample was left unshaken prior to measurement.
