The oxygen uptake progression curves of a variety of waste waters and river waters with added substrates (glucose and milk) were measured using an electrolytic (EBOD) respirometer. Modifications to the electrolysis cell which prevented inaccuracies due to atmospheric pressure and temperature variations increased the sensitivity of the apparatus to be able to measure oxygen demand progression down to 5 mg/l BOD in 5 days.
