Lakes Waihau, Rotokaha, Karangata, Rotonui-a-ha, Rotoroa (near Putere), and Kents Lake were examined for stratification, optical properties, species composition of aquatic macrophytes and levels of algal biomass. Lake stratification was related to profiles of dissolved gases and nitrogen and phosphorus compounds as well as water turbidity. Hypolimnetic aeration would improve water quality in these eutrophic lakes at Tiniroto and Putere. (EIM)
