Ten soil series of representative islands of the Vava'u Group, Kingdom of Tonga, are described in this report and a soil map at the scale of 1:25 000 is presented. Soil-forming factors are discussed and chemical and mineralogical data are presented and discussed. The soils are classified in both the New Zealand Genetic Classification, and the U.S.D.A. Soil Taxonomy. Finally a brief account is given of soil limitations and the potential of soils for various land uses.
